Ewok, Illustrator style

Ee Chee Wa Maa!
Yes, I went on google to find that. Help me.
It seems to be either a love or hate thing with Ewoks. I love them. Furry little gits.  I can remember watching the cartoon when I was a child – and have vague recollections of the Battle for Endor – was that a series or movie? But no matter, Ewoks are awesome and a fun way to practice with illustrator and textures. Makes me want to watch Starwars again.  The originals, not the new three… saying nothing.
I love illustrator, but I do struggle with the more technical/graphic side of things. And being an idiot, I don’t name my layers. Yeah, that’s not fun in Illustrator. I am learning.  I really like using textures at the moment, although they were added in Photoshop afterwards.
Altogether, rather fun! Onto the next one.

psychedelia critter

These rather froggy, lizardy dudes were originally for the COW over on conceptart.org, but muggins here messed up her timing and missed the deadline.  Still, it was a good experience and next time I will look at the clock.
The brief was to create a creature that was dependent on a food-source that was a narcotic.  I went with a reptile that sucks on (and spits out again, don’t worry!) dart frogs. Then sits around saying “dude.” a lot.
Not too happy with the end result, but learnt a lot…

Concept art.org down - so better do some drawing instead

So conceptart.org went down last weekend for upgrades… and it’s killing me! I didn’t realise how much time I spent on the place until I couldn’t get there.  Can’t wait to see the new version, and to update my sketchbook.

Today’s project – about four hours in and most of it looks terrible… but there is hopefully promise on the horizon.  For the rest of tonight, however, there shall be popcorn and bad zombie movies. Night!

Imp,demon, goblin?

Wow, having a bit of a run of “cute” recently! I think I have been watching too many zombie movies and having to overcompensate?
This little dude is an idea for a practice kiddie book I would like to throw together.  I am wondering if he is *too* cute? However, he will have a counterpart who is a bit more obnoxious so perhaps it will work.  The antagonist will hopefully be in colour by the weekend, and then it is time to start on the book itself.

And he needs a name. Sugar McSweetnheartkissy seems right.

Happy Zebra

And how about a cute, happy, experimental zebra having fun to end the weekend on. Why do they always fly by so quickly???

Dah nah…. dah nah… dahnahdahnahdahnah… shark week!

Or rather, it was shark week a couple of weeks past. Wondered if it was possible to draw a friendly shark.  What do you think?
Thanks to everyone who has visited so far – your comments and crits are always much appreciated.

Whoops!

He dropped his icecream!
Trying to catch the second before kiddo realises what happened and is gonna let you know about it.
Also learning watercolours. Oh boy. As someone who is a big fan of lots of colour… restraint is needed. This coming weekend is going to be filled with more watercolours, methinks.

Canine Tarot - 4 of Swords - Pekenese

So, because I simply don’t have enough projects on the go, I have decided to turn my “100 dogs” project into a Tarot project. Craftily, because that will mean that I draw fewer dogs (phew) but also as inspiration – there will need to be a story and a background for the card, not just a dog plonked there looking hungry (sleepy? Bored? Loving).
I am not particularly happy with this first card – I tried a different technique more suited for watercolours and it just didn’t flow well at all.  I nearly gave up twice on this image, but did like it enough to finish. – and hey, only 77 more to go to get the practice in.
So here is card number 1.
4 of Swords, represented by the Peke - Contemplation and quiet preparation is the description of this card. The loyal Peke waits for his master’s return, serenely and patiently.

Feathered Dinosaur revamped

Old character, reinvented for fun’s sake. Based on a generic raptor, with compulsory feathers.  Her face is not quite right and could do with refining, but it was fun.

Puss in Boots

This has been my baby all week.  Learning some new techniques, exploring where I want to go and what I want to be as an artist.  I can see so many things I would change now that it is finished.  I won’t say how many hours was spent on it as it was far too many… but I learnt so much doing so.

Wine is Lovely

Trying something a bit more illustrative. Her anatomy is rather bad, I must say, but it is exciting developing a style. Getting there.

Happy Gecko

It is no secret that I love lizards. Absolutely adore them. Which often gets me strange looks when I enthuse about them in public. Before I took a few years out to travel overseas, I kept leopard geckos and I still miss them terribly.

Little Bit

Foxy character idea, draw entirely in Illustrator. Haven’t quite got the hang of illustrator, but getting there.

Pet Cthulhu

Playing too much Secret World. What would happen if Cthulhu came in pet form?

Digital Sketch – from reference

When I first started out, I totally ignored the fundamentals - especially drawing people.  I didn't want to draw people, they were hard, so I didn't.  Oops.  It is rather impossible to become an artist without drawing human beings - unless you find the perfect niche, which generally doesn't exist - and so I am training myself to draw peeps... and you know what? I am starting to enjoy it.

Not Happy

Hehe - first go with watercolour. I like this one.  Watercolour is rather terrifying though - so delicate and precise, unlike me.  Methinks a class is in order.

“There was something a little bit odd about her cat”

I really liked this when I first finished it – now looking at it, I can see so very many changes needed. Still, it was really really fun and I might redo this one again some day.
